have contributed to the ability to
put out high-level players.
“Parents are far more committed
to their kids getting that
type of training year in and year
out or day in and day out,” Mason
said. “I think the industry
in general has changed. There
are a ton of specialized quarterback
gurus or quarterback
coaches in the industry now,
far more than there were when
I was coming out of high school.
I think quarterbacks are getting
taught much younger about the
game, which has a trickle down
effect to football being played
more around the calendar year.
I think that’s why, to a certain
extent in college and at the NFL
level, you see younger quarterbacks
play and get on the field
quicker. I think that’s because
now, more comparatively speaking
to maybe a decade ago when
I was coming out of high school
when football was kind of seasonal,
you’ve got seven-on-seven
camps and quarterbacks training
year round. They’ve constantly
got a football in their hand and
are constantly repping.”
Not only is the area consistently
putting out Division I quarterbacks,
but it’s high schools
are starting to put out back-toback
DI starters. Eddie Printz
went to Missouri after replacing
Mason at Lassiter, current
Toledo quarterback Gavin Hall
helped Harrison win a state
championship the season after
Fields left, and at Kell, Corbin
LaFrance signed with Robert
Morris after replacing Louisville’s
Evan Conley.
Three more schools may accomplish
the feat within the next
year. Hughes replaced Bailey at
Marietta, Rozsman replaced current
Georgia quarterback Austin
Kirksey at Walton and Archie
replaced current Florida quarterback
Carlos Del Rio-Wilson
at McEachern, after the latter
transferred out of Cobb.
The last 10 years have been
the decade of the quarterback in
Cobb and Cherokee, but as long
as spread offenses and mobile
quarterbacks are popular with
college coaches, the area’s Division
I passer pipeline shows no
signs slowing down.

Fields because of size and athletic ability. Singleton will have his pick of
