Huberts turn sibling rivalry on opponents

Playing sports together is nothing
new for the three Hubert brothers
— Ty, a senior, Isaac, a junior and
Lucas, a sophomore.
“It kind of just feels normal to be
with each other,” Ty said. “We’ve
always been close to each other,
like from when we started (playing
sports).”
The brothers have played nearly
every sport there is. They started by
playing together on a youth soccer
team, then they played t-ball, swam
and ran track. Eventually, they developed

Creekview.
Ty and Lucas both play football in
the fall, wrestle in the winter and
play lacrosse in the spring. Isaac
also plays football and lacrosse,
but chose basketball as his sport of
choice for the winter.
The brothers come from a diverse
athletic background, as both of their
parents were student athletes at the
US Naval Academy. Their father,
Rob, boxed for the academy, while
their mother, Amy, was a swimmer.
Being so close in age, a sibling
rivalry is inevitable between the
brothers. They say their rivalry is

not overly prevalent, but it shows
itself in different ways.
On the field, the trio is not as competitive
with each other, but that
changes when the brothers get into
the weight room. They consistently
try to out lift and outperform one
another.
“(When) I came in as a freshman,
I was wanting to out-max (Ty) for
benches and squats,” Isaac said.
“I still (power) clean more than
(Isaac) though,” Ty said.
Lucas, the youngest of the trio,
is not too worried about beating
his older brothers out on max reps
just yet.
“I got a couple years,” Lucas said.
“I guess there’s a rivalry between
them, but I don’t really compete.”
In the classroom, Ty leads the
brothers with a 4.51 GPA.
“There’s an academic rivalry,” Ty
said. “(Isaac) says he is smarter than
me but he’s not.”
“I am,” Isaac said. “I have a higher
IQ than him.”
Despite the constant rivalry, the
brothers consider themselves close
to one another.
“I would say (we are) pretty close,”
Ty said. “ (It) depends on the situation,
because I feel like it’s more
of an academic connection than an
athletic (connection).”
Creekview coach Trevor Williams
said he loves coaching the three
brothers, and he is looking forward
to having Ty and Isaac’s veteran experience
on the field for the Grizzlies
this season.
“They are an absolute joy to coach,”
Williams said. “They work hard every
day, and they’re incredible in the
classroom. They are three sport athletes,
and just everything you could
hope for. And they are just really,
really fun to be around.”
As for this season, Ty and Isaac
are returning to the defensive side
of the ball for the Grizzlies. Ty is
an outside linebacker who finished
last season with 47 tackles. Isaac,
who plays linebacker and defensive
end, finished the 2020 season with
58 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and
eight sacks.
Lucas, who is a kicker and wide
receiver, is on the offensive side of
the ball.
Isaac leads the brothers with collegiate
offers early in his recruitment.
He currently has an offer
from Jacksonville State University
in Jacksonville, Alabama to continue
his football and academic career.
