lines up in the middle of the
offense, he takes on a number of responsibilities.
He has to read the defense, snap
the ball accurately and execute his
blocking assignment, each a tricky
task on its own, all within a matter
of seconds.
Playing center requires a great deal
of focus, which allows Henderson an
escape from the real world from first
whistle on Friday nights to the last.
His other hobbies — videography and
photography — provide the senior a
similar escape.
“It’s art. It’s a getaway from life,
almost. You go there and focus on
what you want in the moment. You
have total control over it,” Henderson
said.
Henderson combined his passions
for videography and football
by creating football videos for his
teammates. He uses his Cannon camera
to put together hype videos and
highlight edits to get people excited
about the team.
“He’s a very talented young man,”
coach Bryan Love said. “They’re definitely
promotional type videos, like
he’s promoting the program and the
promotion of individual players as
far as their recruitment and their
branding as well. He’s very talented
in regards to that. He’s done some
things for our program, and he’s going
to do some additional things for
our program as well.”
Henderson, who has aspirations
of running a videography company
that shoots documentaries someday,
uses his artistic talents in various
capacities to help the Wheeler
community.
His first edit was on the Wildcats’
wrestling team, and he has taken
some photos for the girls soccer
team. Henderson does the most
work for the football team in order
to draw attention to his teammates.
“Wheeler is overlooked a lot,” Henderson
said. “I wanted to do this for
my friends to give them the opportunity
to put out stuff so they can
be recognized.”
In exchange for the escape that
they provide him, Henderson has
committed himself to football and
videography. When behind a camera,
he experiments with different
mediums and subjects. When on
the field, the 5-foot-11, 230-pound
athlete works hard in order to play
defensive end and left tackle in addition
to starting at center for the
Wildcats.
“He’s a true Wheeler kid,” Love
said. “His integrity, his character,
his work ethic, it all shows up whether
it’s a workout or if it’s on Friday
night. It all shows. He’s not the biggest,
but his grit and tenacity are
unparalleled. No matter what the
score of the game is, from the start
to the finish he’s the same person all
the way throughout. He represents
375 Holt Road well.”
