Inclined Plane
and Cart Model
A simple and durable wooden model of an
inclined plane with a cart. Additional weight
can be added to the cart to explore the
effects on motion. Constructed of particle
board and wooden components. Cart has rubber wheels that fit into grooves on
the track of the inclined plane. Includes pulley, cart, string, and inclined plane with
grooves. 161/2" L x 31/4" x adjustable height to 4".

PSWORKS™ Carriage and Ramp
By: The Flinn Staff
Explore the fundamentals of force and motion with
the Flinn PSWORKS™ Carriage and Ramp. With this
apparatus, students study Newton’s laws of motion
in action and understand the relationships between
distance, time, speed, and acceleration. Students will
also be able to verify the mechanical advantage of an
inclined plane—the simplest of simple machines. An
extension rod is provided to support the ramp over
the edge of a tabletop, which allows the hanging
weights to fall and move the carriage over the entire
length of the ramp.
Additional materials that are required, but not included, are a PSWORKS support
stand, photogate timer, weight hanger, weights and pulley cord.

AP7003 PSWORKS™ Carriage and Ramp $195.30
AP6998 PSWORKS™ Photogate Timer 372.80
AP6999 PSWORKS™ Support Stand 115.00
Inclined Plane
Investigate acceleration, friction and gravity; duplicate
Galileo’s free fall experiments. Folds for storage with
a special hinge. A removable protractor allows you to
clamp the inclined plane up to 45°. Aluminum. 20" x
43/4" x 21/4".

Wheel and Axle
Demonstrate the mechanical advantage of the
lever system capable of continuous rotation—the
wheel and axle. The multiple pulley steps make
the differences in mechanical advantage clear
for students. The drilled holes in the rims of the
pulley steps on the standard wheel and axle make
attachment of pulley cords easy. Its ball bearing
and stainless steel axle assure low friction and better results.

Inclined Plane
Classroom Set
By: The Flinn Staff
The Inclined Plane Classroom Set includes
inclined planes, end pulleys, string and
support rods—enough for eight groups of
students. Mechanical Advantage with an
Inclined Plane laboratory instructions give
students hands-on experience conducting
experiments to learn the benefits of an
inclined plane, commonly referred to as a
ramp. Inclined planes are made of durable
wood, have a smooth finish, and measure 5" x
19". Hall’s carriages, support stands and clamps and spring scales or slotted weight
sets are required for this laboratory, but are not included.

An inclined plane is an essential tool
for every physical science classroom.
Use this four-foot-long, heavy-duty
metal inclined plane to demonstrate
and study frictional forces, potential
and kinetic energy and constant
acceleration. Tough enough to support a fully loaded dynamics cart. Includes a 12" long
metal support rod and adjustable-height pulley system. A clamp holder is required to
support the inclined plane on a ring stand and is sold separately. Dimensions: 48" x 6".

The mechanical advantage (MA) of a gear system is determined by the ratio between
the number of teeth (radius) on the output gear compared to the input gear. For a gear
system with more than two gears, the mechanical advantage of the system is determined
by multiplying the mechanical advantage of each two-gear combination. The center gear
is known as the idler gear.
