A Strong Base and the Human Eye
A strong base like ammonium hydroxide is capable of very, very rapid and
extensive eye damage. In fact, tissue damage to the human eye may occur
in just the first 30 seconds of exposure. The use of chemical splash goggles
and prompt access to a functional eyewash are essential when ammonium
hydroxide and other strong bases are used. If chemicals are to be used,
chemical splash gog gles must be worn!
