Flinn Chemical Element Set
By: The Flinn Staff
The Periodic Table of the Elements
comes alive with the Flinn Chemical
Element Set. Each element sample is
packaged in a heavy-duty, plastic or
glass vial measuring approximately
2" long x 1" in diameter. These durable
vials allow for full viewing of each
element. Four elements—arsenic,
bromine, iodine, and selenium—
are packaged in heat-sealed glass
ampules to be viewed by students with teacher supervision.
Both the container and the container closure are labeled with
the name of the contents. The entire element set is packaged in
a durable, molded plastic case with foam rubber cushions for
safer storage and transportation. Case dimensions are 133/4" L x
10" W x 33/4" D. Contains 24 element samples.

Flinn Hands-On
Chemical Element Set
By: The Flinn Staff
This “hands-on” element set enables
students to pick up and safely
investigate properties of elements.
Complete set includes 14 samples
of 11 different elements and activity
ideas. The elements provided
are aluminum, carbon, copper, iron,
magnesium, nickel, lead, sulfur, silicon, tin and zinc. Three forms of copper (shot, strip
and wire) and two allotropic forms of carbon (graphite and charcoal) are included
with the set to show students that elements may take on various appearances. Each
element comes in a durable plastic zipper-lock bag labeled with the name, symbol
and group number of the contents. Oversized storage tray allows extra space for your
own creative additions to the set!

Atomic Structure Puzzle—
Student Activity Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Atomic “puzzler” activity provides a fun way to review core atomic structure
concepts! Kit consists of 15 unique puzzle sheets, each with 20 different atomic
structure “clues” testing students’ knowledge of atomic number, mass number,
isotopes, ions, protons, neutrons and electrons. Students, working in pairs, answer
the questions on their puzzle sheets in numerical order and then turn them over to
reveal a letter or punctuation mark needed to decode a secret message about the
nature of the atom. All student groups must enter their clues in the proper order, 300
total, to decipher the hidden message!
Complete for 15 groups of students.

Chemistry Bingo—
Super Value Game
By: The Flinn Staff
Our chemistry bingo game combines two
games in one—Element Bingo and Ion
Bingo! The fronts of the bingo cards are
designed with common element symbols
while the backs contain cation and anion
formulas. Game includes heaps of bingo
chips, 42 different double-sided bingo
cards, and sheets of 75 element and 75
ion call-out words to be cut into squares.
Teacher notes and helpful tips provided.
Super Value Game is complete for a class of 30 students. All materials are reusable.

Covalence: A Molecule
Building Game
Covalence is a cooperative card-based game
in which players have to work together to
build a set number of organic molecules.
One player operates as the knower and the
others as the builders. The knower uses
clue cards to direct the builders toward
the correct molecule. Cooperation and an
understanding of covalent compounds are
key to succeeding in this compelling game.
Covalence complies with NGSS standards
and STEM principles. Gameplay takes around
30 minutes and accommodates 2–4 players (more if builders work as teams).

Chemdeck Card Games
By: Ken Barker
Lenape Technical School, Ford City, PA
As students play familiar games, such as draw poker or gin, they try to form an ionic
compound with the largest molar mass using one cation card, one anion card and
two numbered “subscript” cards. Students must analyze their hands for all possible
formulas and molar masses as they compete to have the winning hand. Since no
two hands are ever the same, students must create and examine new compounds
with each deal. Kit contains five decks of cards, each containing 26 common cation
cards, 28 common anion cards and 54 numbered cards as well as 12 blank “wild”
cards. Teacher Notes, reproducible game instructions for three separate games and
one transparency sheet for teacher explanations are also included.
Complete for 30 students working in groups of six. All materials are reusable.
