Water Cycle Model with Study Cards
A two-piece plastic terrain model is used with ice*,
water* and a desk lamp*. Students can create and
study firsthand—clouds, fog, rain formation, rivers and
melting snow processes. Observe how water evaporates
from a lake, collects and condenses on the cloud
form, and precipitates onto the land areas. Ten 81/2" x 11"
color study cards are provided to show students how
the water cycle influences our day-to-day life. Also
includes an activity notebook with lesson plans and
a color transparency for classroom presentation. Model size: 16" L x 12" W x 21/2" D.

Water Sampling
Use a Secchi Disk
to Determine Turbidity
1. Lower the Secchi disk into the water until it just disappears. Read the water depth
from the calibrated line.
2. Raise the Secchi disk until it just appears. Read the water depth from the calibrated line.
3. Add readings from steps 1 and 2 and divide by 2. Record the Secchi Disk
Transparency in meters.
Readings from a drainage lake—more plankton, silt and organic matter so less transparent—
may be 1.0–1.4 meters. Readings from a lake—more transparent—may be 3.0–4.0
meters. Readings as high as 19–21 meters would indicate extreme clarity. Clarity
decreases in summer so that same lake may read only 10 meters during the summer.

Aquatic Dip Net
A strong, yet lightweight anodized aluminum handle and
a plated, spring steel net ring make this aquatic dip net
durable and corrosion proof. Net ring is 12 inches in diameter
and is firmly fastened to the 36-inch handle. Net bag is made
of sturdy, unbleached muslin with a skirt extending below
the green polyester mesh bottom to prevent snagging.

Dissolved Oxygen Meter
One-hand simple operation with automatic temperature
compensation and calibration to air makes this pen meter
excellent for environmental field work. Allows students to
determine water quality for a variety of real-life applications,
such as general environmental testing, labs, industrial and
municipal testing, aquariums, fish hatcheries and much more.
Features include a range of 0–20.0 mg/L; 0–100%, a
resolution of 0.1 mg/L; 0.1%, an accuracy of ±0.4 mg/L;
±0.7%, a temperature range of 32–122 °F; 0–50 °C, simultaneous
display of dissolved oxygen and temperature
readings, ability to hold readings and recall min/max, and completely waterproof.
Polarographic probe has a built-in temperature sensor and easy-to-replace popoff
probe heads. Meter is IP-65 waterproof and comes ready to use in a soft carrying
case with a belt loop, two spare probe heads, electrolyte and 4 AAA batteries. Meter
must be submerged 10 cm to obtain reading. 8" x 2" x 11/2".

All-Weather Field Notebook
Bound notebook contains unique Rite in the Rain® all-weather
writing paper, which has an exclusive waterproof coating.
Paper can withstand long periods of immersion without
losing its strength or writeability. Has an all-weather durable
yellow cover, 48 numbered pages, and can be used with any
standard pencil or ball-point pen.

AP5150 All-Weather Field Notebook $7.25
Secchi Disk
A relative estimate of the phosphate concentration of a lake
can be made using a Secchi disk to determine water clarity.
The disk is lowered into the water and the depth at which
it is no longer visible is recorded. Light extinction depth is
determined and helps to estimate the microscopic plant
and animal life supported by the water. This standard 20 cm diameter limnological
disk is black and white on one side, white on the other, and constructed of durable
ABS plastic. Supplied with integral weight and 48' (15m) of 1/8" nylon cord.
Catalog No. Description Price/Each
AP7175 Secchi Disk $72.24
Seine Net
This durable, easy-to-handle seine is ideal for the capture
and census of macroinvertebrates, minnows and other small
fish. Netting is woven polyester with an 1/8" mesh. The seine is
15' L x 4' D and comes fully assembled with lead weights on
the bottom line, and high-density foam floats on the top line.
Fifteen-foot length can be easily handled by two students.
To facilitate use of the seine, a pair of net poles is available
separately. Poles are one-inch diameter, texture-grip aluminum,
51" long, with protective end caps and holes at either end for tying off seine ropes.
