Scratches are a real enemy of glass. Why? A scratch causes a stress point in
the glass around which a break will occur. Have you ever watched glass being
cut? The first thing done is to scratch or scribe the glass. Pressure is placed on
the scratched line, and a clean break occurs. If you can clean glassware without
using wire brushes that may scratch—great. The sooner dirty labware is washed,
