While that was up 0.6% over fiscal 2019, the system actually EDUCATION
produced slightly fewer jobs in fiscal 2020, generating 155,010
jobs directly and indirectly compared to 157,770 in fiscal 2019.
Fiscal 2020 marked the beginning of the coronavirus
pandemic in Georgia, forcing the university system to shut
down in-person instruction and switch to online classes during
the last couple of months of the spring semester that year.
Statewide, the USG directly and indirectly generated 155,010
jobs — 52,904 University System employees and 102,106 jobs
off-campus. The jobs created were around a one-third oncampus

year,” said acting USG Chancellor Teresa MacCartney. “At the

The USG’s annual study was conducted by the Selig Center for
Economic Growth in the University of Georgia’s Terry College
of Business, which analyzed data collected between July 1, 2019,
and June 30, 2020.

Starting May 10, Kennesaw State University students were welcomed
to the school’s first in-person commencement ceremony in over a year.
Stretching across five days, the school held nine ceremonies
honoring over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students
from the classes of 2020 and 2021.
