In only its second year competing in Major League
Rugby, Cobb-based Rugby ATL is already a force, earning
a championship game berth in 2021.
The team lost 31-17 to the LA Giltinis at LA Memorial
Coliseum in August, finishing the season 11-5.
Rugby ATL defeated Rugby United New York 10-8
in the Eastern Conference finals on the way to the
championship. The team has played well at home in
2021, winning eight of nine games at Life University’s
Lupo Field.
The team began competing in Major League Rugby
in Cobb in 2020, winning its first game at home over
the Utah Warriors. MLR, the top-level league for
Rugby clubs in the U.S., was itself only created in 2018
and has 12 teams.
Rugby ATL competes in the Eastern Conference
against teams based in Virginia, Louisiana, Massachusetts
and elsewhere.
