Numerous trails throughout Cobb

Wanna go for a ride?
With numerous trails
throughout the county, the
great outdoors is right at your
fingertips here in Cobb, and
more miles of walking, biking
and even equestrian surface
could be coming.
In one June meeting, the
Cobb County Board of Commissioners
approved 10 miles
of trails to go in Violet F. Stout
Park in southwest Cobb. At
just over 305 acres, Stout Park
is one of the largest parks in
the county.
The park is built primarily
on land donated by Cobb
County attorney Richard
Stout. The park is named after
his wife, who was murdered
in the couple’s home on the
property in 1989.
The park’s plan calls for a
total of 10 miles of equestrian
and pedestrian trails, which
Parks Director Jimmy Gisi
said was what Richard Stout
wanted.
“That’s one of the areas we
don’t think we do a very good
job of, as far as meeting the demand
of the equestrian community,”
he said. “Yes, they
have Kennesaw Mountain, but
that was Mr. Stout’s wish, that
this would be an equestrian
area for the county.”
The expansion is also slated
to include new parking and
outdoor arenas and warm-up
pens for horses.
Commissioner Keli
Gambrill, herself an accomplished
equestrian and
competition judge, said
she’s looking forward to the
new park.
“I’m glad to see this park
coming about,” she said. “I
know it’s been a long time.
I know the equestrians out
there will thank you for that.”
