content mastery, progress, closing gaps, readiness, and high school
graduation rates, according to a DOE release.
The new metric is calculated using a 100-point scale — whereas
110 total points were available to schools last year — and the
number of indicators, or factors used to determine scores, was
reduced.
A new “closing gaps” component rewards schools for making
progress with traditionally underserved subgroups such as English
learners, the economically disadvantaged and students with
disabilities.
And the new “Beyond the Core” indicator for elementary and
middle schools incentivizes student participation in subjects like
fine arts, world language, physical education, health and career
education, according to the DOE.
COBB, MARIETTA SEE PROGRESS
The state average on the 2018 CCRPI was 76.6, with scores of 77.8
for elementary schools, 76.2 for middle schools, and 75.3 for high
schools.
Cobb earned an overall score of 79.6, topping the state average by
3 points. The district’s elementary schools earned an average score of
76.1, its middle schools earned a 78.6 and Cobb high schools earned
a score of 85.4.
A total of 19 Cobb schools received scores higher than 90,
according to the district.
Marietta earned a district-wide average of 75.2 on the latest
scores. Elementary schools earned an average of 75.1, the district
earned a 74 at the middle school level and Marietta High received
a 76.3.
The district’s highest performing school was the Marietta Center
for Advanced Academics, which received an overall score of 95.9.
Marietta’s most improved school was Dunleith Elementary, which
led the district in the progress category with a score of 99 while
receiving a 100 on the “closing gaps” portion of the metric.
Two other Marietta schools, MCAA and Marietta Sixth Grade
Academy also received perfect 100s in the area of closing gaps.
“Our teachers, counselors and principals have an exceptional
commitment to supporting all students and closing the achievement
gap,” Marietta Superintendent Grant Rivera said. “Getting better
scores isn’t enough here in Marietta. We continue to meet the needs
of the whole child through innovative classroom learning, family
engagement and a relentless focus on student achievement data.”
Top performing Cobb high schools included Walton, which
received a score of 96.3, Lassiter, which scored 95.8, and Harrison
High with a score of 94.
At the middle school level, notable schools include Simpson
Middle School with its score of 94.7, and Dodgen and Hightower
Trail middle schools, which both scored 91.8.
The three elementary schools with the highest CCRPI scores were
Mount Bethel, which earned a 95.6, Kemp, which received a 93.5,
and Timber Ridge, which earned a 93.3.
Cobb high school students outpaced the state average for content
mastery by 17.3 points, and seven schools across the district earned
perfect 100s in that category.
