The benchmark of our success is not measured by the
longevity of our business, but the relationships we establish
with you and the impact we make in the community.
submarket,” he said. “BioIQ
was a headquarters relocation
project that created 500 jobs
and over $5 million in private
investment. CareStream Dental
expanded its global headquarters
and the project brought
$7.7 million in private investment
and it retained 300 jobs
and created an additional 200
new jobs.”
In May 2019, SelectCobb
welcomed Plethora, an on-demand
advanced manufacturing
company, to Marietta. A
company that dedicates their
resources to inventors and
engineers, the Plethora project
created 250 new jobs and more
than $17 million in investment.
“All of these projects are big
wins for Cobb and the Atlanta
metro region,” Johnson said.
“We’re only midway through
2019 and the strategy has
exceeded its job creation goal.
To date, we have tracked 2,087
new jobs for the county.”
Beyond those overall
numbers, Johnson said he was
“particularly proud” of the initiative’s
movement on international
strategy so far in 2019.
“In June, SelectCobb traveled
as part of the Georgia trade delegation,
under the leadership
of the Georgia Department of
Economic Development to the
Southeastern United States –
Canadian Provinces alliance.
This SEUS-CP alliance is a
partnership between six states
in the Southeastern United
States, and six Canadian provinces,”
Johnson said. “The goal
for this alliance is to build trade
and collaboration between the
two regions.”
In summer 2018, Johnson
added, SelectCobb hosted its
first trade mission to Canada.
“As part of our annual strategic
leadership visit, we invited
our investors to tour Toronto’s
economic development offices,
business incubators and a
number of businesses that have
future growth plans that may
include an expansion into the
United States,” he said.
Among previous projects
lured to the county with the
help of SelectCobb were
SunTrust Park and The Battery
Atlanta in Cumberland and the
Atlanta United Football Club
headquarters and training facility
in Marietta, both of which
opened in 2017.
Other corporate relocations
in Cobb include Genuine Parts’
move in 2014 and Aaron’s in
2015, while other additions
to the Cumberland landscape
include the HD Supply Leadership
Center and Comcast’s
office tower, the latter located
next to SunTrust Park.
Set to tower over these and
other corporate additions in
the coming years, however, is
German industrial conglomerate
Thyssenkrupp’s new North
American headquarters. Part
of its estimated $240 million
facility will be a 420-foot tower
inside The Battery Atlanta. The
elevator qualification and test
tower is expected to become the
tallest structure in the county.
Construction is expected
to be complete in 2021, and
once it reaches its full occupation
in September or October
of 2022, it will be home to
nearly 1,000 jobs.
