SUMMER 2021 | LAKE OCONEE LIVING 47
Scooter
No matter where Calvin Smith
puts a certain chair while
rearranging the well-appointed
home décor store, Bend the Trend,
his 3-year-old mix, Scooter McGee,
makes it his own.
He sits, leaned against a pillow
reading “Dogs welcome, people
tolerated,” like a king surveying his
kingdom – no doubt a welcomed
change from the humane society
where Smith adopted him.
“He’s very sophisticated,” says
Smith, joking that he likes Hendrick’s
martinis and Benson &
Hedges 120s. Despite his distinguished
manners, Smith says Scooter
loves giving kisses, loves being
around babies, and loves playing
with other dogs.
The only time Scooter gets upset,
he says, is when he sees someone
walk by the store without coming in
to say hello.
“He’s our part-time director of
security here in the store,” says
Smith. “If you walk by the store and
don’t come in, he has a big problem
with that. It’s the only time he really
barks. So, he’s a little forceful with
his sales strategy, but as we say here
at Bend the Trend, ‘ABC – always be
closing.”
Scooter’s throne will soon have
a new home once the store moves
locations in June. So, if you’re near
2101 Reynolds Parkway, next to
Cowles Clinic, be sure to stop and
say hello to Scooter McGee.
