The Dog Days of
SUMMER
Dogs make for the best
ice-breakers. You’d be hardpressed
to find someone out
and about with a dog who
wasn’t excited to talk about
their best friend. Connections
are easily made
among pet-lovers
and there is
perhaps no better
networking spot
than a dog park.
I made some of
my best acquaintances
there when
we first moved to
town.
This is why our
summer issue was
such a joy to create. In celebrating
the “Dog Days of Summer,”
we were able to meet so
many different people around
the lake and talk about one of
their favorite subjects. It was
even better because we got
to pet those subjects and get
plenty of kisses from them.
Just another perk of the job.
Dogs are a constant in my
world. I wake up and come
home to three wonderful
German Shepherds each day.
There’s even a dog at our office
every day. She’s a poodle with
painted nails, but she can’t help
it.
Molly was actually the inspiration
for “Dogs in Business”
that we created three years
ago. We began noticing how
many other business and shop
owners around the lake bring
their dogs to work with them
each day and we wanted to
introduce these furry faces to
our readers. Meet this year’s
newest canine co-workers on
page 45.
Other businesses in the
area encourage
you to bring your
own pet along.
We visited local
restaurants
and our hometown
brewery to
check out their
pooch-friendly
patios (see page
57). With the
beautiful summer
weather upon us,
dining al fresco is a popular
option everywhere and is especially
enticing when you can
enjoy it with your whole family,
furry or not.
Summer also brings plenty
of outdoor events as the region’s
social calendar begins to
get back into full swing. With
2020 behind us, we are anxious
to once again enjoy signature
events like Madison’s annual
Firefly Festival or Greensboro’s
Pickin’ on the Greene and get
back into theaters and galleries
with memorable performances
and exciting exhibits. For a
complete list of Happenings
around the lake, see page 81.
We hope this issue inspires
you to get outside, explore new
places, and make new connections.
Just ask people about
their dog. It works every time.
Enjoy!
