Library Board
Commends Friends’ Gift
of a Van to the Library
For its 2018-19 fiscal year, Friends of
the Shaker Library donated $29,000 for
the purchase of a van for the Library. It
also approved $22,000 to support the
extra programs and services that help
to make the Library the exceptional
community asset it is. The $51,000 is
the largest gift from the Friends to date.
Library board president Brian Gleisser
presented a Resolution of Gratitude to
Friends president Evelyn Greene at its
October meeting.
Since its founding in 1980, Friends
of the Shaker Library has granted almost
$750,000 to the Library though fundraising
and membership drives.
Some of the ways Friends raises
money for the Library are through its
annual membership drive, book sales, and
special events, such as the Italian Wine
Tasting and Dinner in the Bertram Woods
Garden last September. The evening was
limited to 40 guests, who enjoyed an
educational and fun tasting of six Italian
wines from Gene Veronesi of Shaker
Wines, followed by a dinner catered by
Piccolo Italian Restaurant.
Friends welcomes residents to join.
Membership envelopes are available at all
Library desks.
