Checklist
As you get into the final stretch of winter weather in February, it's important
to make winter home tasks an ongoing priority. Even though you may
be ready to move onto spring, winter is here for at least another month.
While the weather is still cold, tackle a few deep cleaning and organizational
tasks around the home as well.
Clear sidewalks and steps of ice and snow daily
In many areas of the country, February is the snowiest month of the year.
When it has snowed overnight, clear the sidewalks, steps, and driveway
first thing in the morning, so family members, deliverymen, and neighbors
can navigate the property safely. Once the surfaces are cleared,
spread a layer of salt. When it hasn't snowed, but the temperatures are
below freezing, do a quick inspection to determine if you need to re-clear
and re-salt the pathways.
Spruce up your entryway
Home entryways and mudrooms take a beating in the winter, with family
members tracking in snow and ice and scattering boots, outerwear, and
coats everywhere. Put down a boot tray or thick mat to limit the spread
of snow and mud. At least once a week, straighten up the winter gear, and
clear the floor of miscellaneous items, such as stray toys and backpacks.
