Uniquely Oregon.
A Destination to find Antiques, Vintage, Resale, and
Collectible Items February, March, April.
A trio of cool, damp, and grey months. So how to spend a free day? Consider
Oregon as a treasure hunting destination. Spend the day browsing
through fifteen antique and resale businesses in this small historic city. It’s
not unusual for towns to have a few such shops, but Oregon’s many antique,
collectible, and resale shops has made it a destination for shoppers across the
region. You’ll find merchants specializing in coins, collectibles, knick-knacks,
and oddities; resale and refurbished furnishings; as well as large primitive
pieces and fine oak antique furniture. You may find a pencil holder designed
on a stand with a pair of stuffed frogs playing pool. Who would have
guessed? Or brightly colored vintage steel drinking glasses from childhood.
Or the finished oak bathroom vanity perfect for your home.
Ten of the town’s shops are within a three block walk of downtown parking.
Many can be found at Conover Square, a 50,000 square foot indoor shopping
mall near downtown. A converted piano factory, it also containing eateries,
a model train exhibit, salons, art shops, and a local farm museum. While in
town take time to view many of the large public sculptures, eating establishments,
specialty retailers, parks, and Rock River views. (cityoforegon.org)
IN ADDITION: The Women’s Club will be putting on the 69th Oregon Antique
Show - northern Illinois’ premier event for collectors across the Midwest. Held
on March 22nd and 23rd this year with over 50 dealers from several states.
