Lock and Dam Park is the jewel in the Floyd County Parks & Recreation Department’s park
system.
During the COVID-10 pandemic, it has been a sanctuary for folks who have otherwise not
been able to do much in the way of travel and vacations.
Being a little off the beaten path off Black’s Bluff Road is a plus for folks like Randy and
Linda McBurnett, former Romans who now live in Cedar Bluff. It’s not unusual to find them
camping out at the Lock and Dam two weekends a month.
“It’s real quiet,” Linda said.
“It’s just a cool place to come to,” Terry Tillery said. Cool as in nice, and cool as in shady,
on a hot August afternoon. Tillery and his brother Edward Tillery who both live in Rome,
bring their pop-up trailer to the park about once a month to get away from everything and
sit around in shade where Edward frequently can be found picking his guitar.
“We’ve been coming down here quite a few years,” Terry said.
