There’s always some excitement when the Best Of Rome
contest is going on.
I know it’s not some lofty award granted by a committee. And
contrary to popular belief, it is NOT the Rome News-Tribune
that awards the title to BEST OF.
We only facilitate the competition.
Best Of is decided by people...people all over Rome and
Floyd County. They nominate and then they vote. They vote by
the thousands.
The winners and runners up of this year’s Best Of
competition are listed inside these pages. As you look through
the names in each category, remember that it took thousands
of votes for some of them to win.
But it also took many votes to even get on the ballot for final
voting.
The winners and runners up should be proud to be named
Best Of Rome. It shows a committment by Rome and Floyd
County residents to choose their favorite businesses, services
and individuals.
There are also some pretty cool features in the magazine
as well. Check out our travel piece. Two well known Rome
residents - Virginia Harman and Tami Colston - took an
unforgettable trip to Egypt and Istanbul just before covid hit
and we’ve got the most incredible images from that journey.
Their photos capture the history, culture and people they
encountered while crossing the desert sands and seeing some
of the most iconic structures ever built.
We’ve also got some local history to share as well. In one
photo feature, Selena Tilly of the Rome Area History Center
was kind enough to provide us with some very cool photos
of old Rome. One of our reporters went around to all those
locations and took photos of what those places look like today.
For many of those places the transformation is unbelievable.
Lock and Dam Park is a great spot many local families enjoy.
We’re featuring this local getaway which is popular for offering
camping, hiking and especially fishing to lots of area families.
In another look at the past, reporter Blake Silvers did a little
driving and came up with photos of old and vintage signs.
Some could be found in plain sight on Broad Street while
others were tucked away in barns and buildings across the
county. But they all brought back a little nostalgia for a time
gone by.
While covid may have changed a lot of things in our
community, we at Rome Life Magazine are still bringing you the
stories and images that make our little part of the world such
a special place.
