Nelson Morris:
Thousand Faces Project
A two-year labor of love for Morris, an artist and
educator based in Kent, Ohio, the Thousand Faces
Project captures the diversity of human forms with
just over 1000 cast concrete faces and several
full-body and torso casts. The figures are arranged
into immense geometric sculptures that imply
timelessness through materiality and
weight, while capturing the
ephemerality of human
expression.
Many of the
thousand-plus
participants were
cast live in plaster
at Northeast Ohio
events – sometimes
dozens in a single
day. The artwork
captures a wide
range of ages, and
ethnic and geographic
backgrounds. The
exhibit was most recently
on display at Eton Collection
Chagrin Boulevard. To learn more,

Hector Castellanos Lara: Lava Stones
Hector Castellanos Lara is accustomed to mixed-media and short-lived artworks that
bring people together both in their creation, as well as
upon completion. A 10-year veteran artist and one of the
drivers behind the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Chalk Festival
(pictured left) and annual Parade the Circle, Castellanos
Lara seamlessly integrates different cultural elements
and engages participants from a variety of backgrounds,
experience levels, and disciplines.
His 2018 installation in Shaker Heights will
feature benches enclosing a quiet space for
contemplation, surrounding a central focal
point of lava stones, whose healing
properties promote emotional
tranquility, relaxation, and a sense
of calmness.
Castellanos Lara is involved
in education and outreach across
Northeast Ohio and is a former
board member of SPACES World
Artist Program. He currently sits
on the board of Art House, Inc.
