Core values to lead 2021
Armuchee to more success
By Anna Snyder
News-Tribune Sports Writer
At Armuchee, the Indians are
not solely focused on winning.
After finishing the 2020 season
2-6, the Indians are not
caught up in winning every single
game this season or making
it to the playoffs.
Instead, the coaches are instilling
within their players to live up
to their three core values — toughness,
dependability and hard work
— and knowing positive results
will follow.
“We don’t talk about results,”
fourth-year coach Jeremy Green
said. “We just, we look at our
core values and we try to embrace
(them).
“And the results are going to be
what they are going to be at the
end of (the season), we don’t get
caught up in that.”
This season, Green said the Indians
have numerous veteran skill
players returning, but have a young
offensive and defensive line.
On offense, 5-foot-9, 155-pound
Chandler Desanto will be the returning
quarterback and punter
for the Indians. Desanto, who
threw for 674 yards and five
touchdowns last season, was
named the 2020 Region 6A
Public first-team punter.
The Indians have many dual
threat players returning this
year, including 5-10, 160-pound
starter JJ House, who plays both
wide receiver and defensive
back. House, a rising senior,
is a reigning 2021 Region 6A
Public All-Region player and a
second team all-area receiver.
Kameron Parker, a 5-10,
180-pound senior, will be returning
as a wide receiver and
defensive back for the Indians
after being named the 2020
Region 6A Public second team
all-region wide receiver.
Some of the new additions to
the offensive line are Christian
Cox (freshman), Jaden Salmon
(junior) and Tristan Young (sophomore),
and Green said he expects
all of them to play big roles on the
offensive front.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Green said he expects sophomore
Jackson Coonley (safety), freshman
Hayden Phillips (linebacker)
and freshman Jakson Hightower
(defensive line) to play vital roles
for the team.
With experience returning to
the field, and opportunities for
young players to step up, Green
said he expects the season to be
a good one.
Perhaps the team’s biggest
strength, however, is not their
numbers on the field, but instead,
their actions off the field.
“Well I think the biggest thing
is that we like each other,” Green
said. “Of all the team’s I’ve coached
here, and just about in my 20 years
of coaching, of all the teams I’ve
been around, this team has the
best camaraderie.
“You know, that means a lot,
and that helps a lot.”
Despite what happens on the field
this season, Green is confident he
is shaping good young men within
the Armuchee community.
“We want to have a football program
that the Armuchee community
can be proud of,” Green said.
“That’s the only goal we have every
year.”
