Primary care
sports medicine
specialists treat
the whole person.
Caitlin Lewis, MD, is a primary care sports medicine
physician – a family practice physician with special training
in sports medicine. She treats patients at Cleveland
Clinic Sports Health Center in Garfield Heights and the
Beachwood and Independence family health centers.
“The care I provide goes beyond sports medicine. I provide
a full range of care for the whole patient, from orthopaedic
conditions and injuries to medical and nutrition issues
and more,” says Dr. Lewis. “Treatment options often
include physical therapy, medications, bracing, injections,
procedures, and referrals for surgery if needed.”

• Treatment for acute injuries like sprains, strains and fractures of the knee,
finger, shoulder or hip.
• Management of overuse injuries like tendonitis or stress fractures.
• Comprehensive evaluation and management of concussions.
• Collaborative care for chronic and acute illnesses that effect return to exercise
like mononucleosis, asthma, hypertension and diabetes.
In addition, they:
• Guide decisions regarding nutrition.
• Make recommendations on safe training and conditioning exercises.
• Provide insight into how to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
• Recommend exercise routines to increase fitness levels or prevent injury.
• Help with return-to-play decisions if you are sick or injured.
“Whether you’re a semi-professional athlete preparing for a competition or an
older individual who is having problems mowing the lawn due to an injury, it’s
about getting moving,” says Dr. Lewis. “For your mental and physical health, it’s
very important to get yourself moving and exercising in whatever capacity that
may be.”
