ROCK FALLS
As I write this article, it is snowing outside today. But spring is truly just
around the corner, and I wanted to share with you some of the activities you
will see happening around the City.
On the Riverfront, you will see construction beginning on a new hotel, directly
across the street from the Holiday Inn Express and Suites. The new
hotel will be a new market brand called My Place, with 46 units tentatively
planned. It offers the guests, the comfort of home and allows guest to save
money the longer they stay and each room will contain a kitchenette. Construction
hopes to be started around the first week of May.
To the south of this development on East Third Street between Wood Avenue
and Avenue A, you can see a lot of activity around the property previously
operating as the Rock River Tool & Die. The property was bought by local
entrepreneur Larry McCormick. He is changing the entire landscape, and
turning the buildings into a Banquet facility. There is even a possibility that
a restaurant could be coming soon as well. These developments coupled with
the hotels and activities on the Riverfront will be bringing a lot of people to
our community.
Have you observed the activities going on at the previous CGH Medical
Clinic, as you come across the bridge into Rock Falls? A new owner has
acquired the property and is giving the building a facelift, so that it blends in
with the Riverfront design.
You will be seeing construction activities on the south entrance to the City
over the next several months. We extending our city services, electric, water,
sewer, broadband to the Schmitt property that we purchased. Working to
make the area shovel ready for development. In August 2019, IDOT is going
to be doing a road project to renovate the road, curd and gutter from the
Hennepin Canal Bridge on the South end of the City, all the way up to and
including the Rt. 30 & Rt. 40 intersection.
Wed have a full schedule coming to the RB&W Riverfront Park this summer
and into fall. Food Truck Fridays is back and will include live entertainment
in the evening hours along the Riverfront. Summer Splash, with movie night
and fireworks; Art in the Park, Taste of Fiesta, and River Chase to name a
few. Go to Rock Falls Tourism website at www.visitrockfalls.com to get more
information on all of the events.
