Experience Oregon, Illinois
There's more than meets the eye
If you haven’t been to Oregon lately you need to come and catch up!
Aerial silks, trendy restaurants with healthy menu items, martinis, art,
music, record stores, & riverfront recreation. Over the long winter we’ve
been growing & adding some surprisingly upscale (yet affordable) experiences
that you’d be surprised to find in small town Illinois!
This is a trend that we’re all starting to take notice of, and it’s partly due to
a new wave of passionate young professionals on the scene. Oregon, Illinois
is extremely lucky to have many energetic, dynamic, and enthusiastic
people in positions of leadership in the area.
We’ve witnessed more collaboration, and a stronger desire for community
involvement in recent years! For this reason, the Oregon Area Chamber
of Commerce and the City of Oregon are committed to encourage and
develop this type of network through a new initiative we’re calling “Young
Professionals Network.” This will be a group to help business professionals,
business owners, and community leaders find each other in order to
learn from each other's experiences and have an outlet to discuss their
perspectives, challenges, and goals. We’re confident that this will serve
to grow our community in areas of business skills and civic involvement.
We’ve reached out to some young professionals to see what their thoughts
were on this, and the response has been extremely positive! There is nothing
like this for them in the area, and they are thrilled to join. Rebecca
Jones President, Pine Creek Escape Co. said, “Being a millennial business
professional today is very dynamic… I feel it is important to remember to
take a step back, listen to what our preceding generations have learned,
understand why it was done that way and then make a decision on how
to move forward.” Candace Rivera, owner of Hazel’s Cafe: “It’s refreshing
to see our old historic town welcome our younger generations. Let them
mold and create our new future. Change is invigorating.”
The idea for this group was suggested by a young professional in Oregon
who grew up here, moved away for a few years and came back home
to continue her career here. We would like to provide opportunities to
welcome new professionals and help them get to know the area and the
amazing people in it because there’s more than meets the eye in Oregon,
Illinois.
