Community Collaboration
for Success
Promoting the value of
learning about skilled
professions is a shared goal
of CCSD, the Cherokee
Office of Economic Development
and local employers,
who together collaborate
as the Cherokee
County Workforce Collaborative.
The C3 Academy is a
major initiative supported
by the Collaborative, with
local employers providing
insight to CCSD educators
as to the careers most in
demand now and the
anticipated job growth over
the next decade to help
plan future course offerings.
The Collaborative’s
support has expanded over
the past school year with
two new initiatives focused
on promoting skilled
trades: Be Pro Be Proud
Georgia and the Cherokee
Skilled Professions Signing
Day (see “Perfect Partners”
on p. 34-35 for more
details).
Be Pro Be Proud Georgia
includes an interactive
mobile workshop that
travels the state to provide
middle and high school
students with a chance to
explore careers in skilled
professions, and a website
that features information
on these professions including
training programs
and companies seeking
workers. The workshop
opened its doors to students
in July 2020 and
already has visited all
CCSD middle and high
schools as well as many
more across the state as
part of its inaugural year.
The Cherokee Skilled
Professions Signing Day
held in May, which will be
held annually every spring,
celebrated graduating
CCSD high school seniors
choosing to pursue advanced
technical training
or immediately begin
careers in one of Be Pro Be
Proud Georgia’s 15 top
skilled trades. The event is
patterned after the national
signing days recognizing
student athletes.
“Skilled professionals
build our world and keep it
running smoothly each day
in so many ways,” Dr.
Hightower said. “Our
Career Pathways program
prepares and encourages
students to pursue skilled
jobs, and Be Pro Be Proud
Georgia and the Cherokee
Skilled Professions Signing
Day are important partnerships
to promote career
choices and celebrate
student success.”
