a burnt offering upon one of
the mountains which I will tell
thee of (Genesis 22:2).
Abraham had to go beyond
his own human thoughts and
into the spiritual thoughts
of God to be able to follow
through on those instructions.
The Bible says, For
my thoughts are not your
thoughts, neither are your ways
my ways, saith the LORD. For
as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways, and
my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah
55:8,9).
Abraham obeyed; and the next morning,
he and Isaac set out for Mount Moriah. That
climb must have been an awful ordeal for
Abraham, and I’m sure he had to crucify self
all the way.
Abraham walked by faith.
On High is not a devouring fire but
one that will give her all the power
she needs to be used of God. It is
fire of love, peace and faith, not
of judgment or condemnation.
Jesus said, Judge not, that ye
be not judged. For with what
judgment ye judge, ye shall
be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be
measured to you again (Matthew
7:1,2).
Jesus also said, For if ye forgive men
their trespasses, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men
their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:14,15).
When you have a forgiving spirit, you will
not carry any grudges; and you will put your
enemies in God’s hands.
When you surrender all, you will go beyond
carrying grudges, bitterness and trifling, foolish
things. Your heart will be filled with the
love of God, and His grace will take care of
whatever you may need. My grace is sufficient
for thee: for my strength is made perfect
in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9). Grace
is all the favor and mercy of God, and you
must never leave the realm of that grace.
Through grace, God wants to give His holy
people a great inheritance. Paul said, And
now, brethren, I commend you to God, and
to the word of his grace, which is able to
build you up, and to give you an inheritance
among all them which are sanctified (Acts
20:32). He also said, But by the grace of God
I am what I am (I Corinthians 15:10). Only
by the grace of God can you be a member of
the bridal company today.
Abraham Obeyed
Abraham had to surrender all to God to be
able to follow His plan. Abraham had waited
25 years for the son God had promised him;
and then when Isaac was still a boy, God told
Abraham, Take now thy son, thine only son
Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into
the land of Moriah; and offer him there for
How could Abraham even consider going
through with God’s plan?—because he knew
God had promised to multiply his seed, and he
knew God would have to raise up Isaac to be
able to do that. God had told Abraham, As for
me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and
thou shalt be a father of many nations. And
I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I
will make nations of thee, and kings shall
come out of thee (Genesis 17:4,6).
Once Abraham and Isaac reached the top of
the mountain, Isaac spake unto Abraham
his father, and said, My father: and he said,
Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the
fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for
a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My
son, God will provide himself a lamb for a
burnt offering (Genesis 22:7,8). Only by surrendering
all could Abraham have said that,
and there was great strength in those words.
God was leading Abraham to a place in Him
beyond any He had ever led anyone to before;
and today, God will lead His children into that
