5 Wedding Shower Theme Ideas
Wedding showers are supposed to be festive events that bring friends and
family together for a time of giving and celebrating. You want it to be a memorable
time for the guests, and what better way than to do it with a theme?
Here are some fun bridal shower themes that will never fail to bring smiles to
the faces of everyone in attendance:
1. Romantic movie or novel - Since there's nothing more romantic than a
wedding, featuring the bride-to-be's favorite movies or novels will make her
sigh. Decorate with books or movie posters. Serve fun foods served in pairs,
such as cheese and crackers, pasta and sauce, ham and cheese, peanut butter
and jelly, and anything else you can think of. A fun game to play is to name
the other half of a famous couple. Some examples are Bogey and Bacall, Scarlet
and Rhett, or Superman and Lois Lane. If this is a "couples" shower, have
everyone dress as their favorite famous couple.
2. Cooking together - If you're hosting a kitchen shower for the bride
and groom, consider bringing all the guests into the kitchen to prepare their
favorite foods. Ask them to write the recipes on index cards to share with
everyone else. As the host or hostess, you can put together a recipe file to send
home with the bride-to-be.
3. Spa shower - Planning a wedding is hard work and can be quite stressful.
If you have a spa nearby, have everyone meet there for an afternoon or evening
of pampering. If there isn't a spa, everyone can go to your home and do
facials, manicures, and pedicures. Encourage all the guests to bring spa gifts
for the bride.
4. Holiday-themed shower - If a holiday falls in the days during the wedding
planning, take advantage of it and use it for the theme. For Valentine's
Day, you can have hearts everywhere, including heart-shaped cookies, heartshaped
candy, and heart-shaped ice cubes in the drinks. Serve sandwiches
that are cut in the shape of hearts and add red food coloring to your onion
chip dip. A Fourth of July party can feature red, white, and blue decorations
everywhere with sandwiches in picnic baskets. For Halloween, have all the
guests come in costume and serve refreshments from pumpkins. A Christmastime
shower will be fun if you can talk Santa into paying a visit.
5. Bar stocking shower - Couples who already have everything they need
may enjoy a stock-the-bar shower. Everyone can bring a bottle of their favorite
libation and a wrapped pair of cocktail glasses. Give everyone an opportunity
to talk about their favorite drinks and hand out recipe cards to the group.
As you choose a theme for the bridal shower, take the couple's tastes and
needs into consideration. If the couple is setting up housekeeping for the first
time, you may use any room of the house for the theme. If the couple already
has what they need, consider a theme with everyone bringing gift cards, food,
or another consumable item.
