In Shaker Heights
n Being new to Ohio and the neighborhood… and having
people welcome us into their neighborhood so warmly
so soon after we moved in. My friends back home comment how
fast I’ve made friends and a community for myself and I tell them it is the neighborhood… it’s in the fabric of the neighborhood
in which we live. n People. All the different people that live amongst us. Fascinating!
n The trees. n Hard not to love it. The libraries are top notch! n Every house façade has a
subtle architectural detail that sets it apart so all the houses coordinate, but yet, each house is as
unique as the families in the neighborhood. n The sidewalks! I love taking long stroller
walks around the neighborhood and all over Shaker! Especially fun when we run into
friends or neighbors and can have a quick chat or walk together for a while!
n The school musical & theatrical arts. n The flowers
that bloom from the hanging pots, as you drive down the street.
The kindness our neighbors show new people in our
neighborhood. The love of the Fire, Police, and our City service
department. God bless our City.
Pretty
much
everything.
If I had to
pick one
thing, I’d
say Shaker
Public
Schools!
n Amount of family-oriented programs offered. n People: multi-racial/multi-ethnic,
multi-lingual; overall safety of SH; genuine valuing of education across a lifetime (as
evidenced by the % of residents w/grad & higher degrees); city
of homes, not strip malls; trees; TREES; sidewalks; TREES;
sidewalks; NATURE CENTER & programming there; access to CLE, especially University
Circle museums & Music Settlement (& world-class hospitals) + our sports venues & concert
halls. • Wonderful people willing to solve problems via real, workable solutions. • Beautiful
parents who always had my kids’ backs (& mine) & co-created a genuine sense
of community & support. • And the ARTS, music, science, history programs in our public
schools... best I’ve seen anywhere. Access to private schools to meet needs of families who desire. • Respect among neighbors &
community of diverse religious, cultural, ethnic, racial backgrounds. • Finally - the beauty & size of our homes are underpriced
(COMPARED to COMPARABLE communities: Kenilworth; Grosse Point; Belle Meade in Nashville, anyone?) I’m just a
transplant (28 years) but due to the people here, I’ve never felt more at home. Thanks for asking.
n Kindness and open mindedness of the people. Willingness to stop and talk. The way the people who work
in Shaker remember names. The mailman says hi, the trash guys wave at the kids. Unhurried pace, good
manners. Teens offer to mow my lawn and shovel my
snow. n When you forget to take your purse
to Heinen’s and 3 friends/neighbors offer
to pay your bill! SM
I love how open-minded
the residents are.
The
beautiful
homes!!
The parks,
the Shaker
community and
the chance for
my children to
have grown up
in a progressive,
diverse city.
The people, the character
of the neighborhoods.
