#Community
n My neighborhood… the smiles as we walk past, the kids playing
across the lawns in the evenings, the posts about a lost dog or missing
key chain, the block parties. n I love that my brown child has lots of other
brown children in his class at school. n Kindness. Lots of kindness. n We love our
neighborhood… all the kids playing outside together every afternoon. n I can’t stop at one.
Diversity. Sense of community. Terrific school options, including Shaker Schools from which
my husband, son, and daughter graduated! n The families and the schools.
n Front lawn neighborhoods. Good schools.
n Neighbors that know and look out for their neighbors. n I love
the huge trees and sidewalks. n It was the best and most beautiful
place to grow up. I miss it so much. n Lovely walks, marvelous
neighbors, diversity, great schools, the library,
unmatched springs and falls, the new Van Aken District,
proximity to University Circle and downtown, the Rapid.
Need more? Just ask. n They pick up the garbage in the back. n Beautiful and
walkable and the lakes and parks. The kind neighbors and dog friendly. Summer street parties. Van Aken District!
n The change of seasons…especially spring and fall. n Super quick police response when you need them.
n Wonderful neighbors and diversity. At least 60 different
nationalities at my elementary school. n Love my neighbors. Love the
intimacy of my neighborhood. Love the trees and the housing stock. We have pretty
houses! n Trees, flowers, spring vegetation, birds, neighbors, friendly
dogs, seeing kids playing, and totally grateful for backyard trash pickup!
n Love the proximity to downtown. n I always feel safe here.
Door is always open in nice weather, like today. n Our libraries!
n The architecture. Few places have such fine homes designed for
people of average means. The use of the whole traditional vocabulary in the houses is a never ending treat. No matter
how many times I walk the same street, there is always a new discovery.
n Another thing I love is how the people are very quick to help others in so
many ways. Community meals, pot luck at different homes, hand me down Facebook
page, Go Fund Me efforts for different causes and needs, etc. This is how I was raised and I
love that in my retirement I can be in a loving community. n Smiling, friendly faces
I pass on my walk. n The homes and the beautiful properties they sit
upon, the parks, the sidewalks, the schools, the PEOPLE/diversity and
the proximity to everything. n I have a lot of fantastic neighbors.
Neighbor #1:
On a gray Thursday,
I’d love to hear
one thing from my
neighbors that they
love about Shaker
Heights…
Best
neighbors
ever!
I love the
firemen who
are always
willing and able
to help even
when there’s
no fire.
The non-cookie cutter
quality of life!
How do I
love thee
(Shaker)?
Let me count
the ways.
Everything.
