@ Shaker Library
In 2016, to promote summer reading and to contribute an art activity for Shaker Art Council’s
SHAC Pop Ups at The Dealership, the Library created three-feet tall letters that spelled out
SHAKER READS and invited adults and children to help paint them. The colorful letters were coated
with polyurethane to protect them, mounted on poles, and installed in the front yard of Woods Branch
during the summers of 2017 and 2018.
The Library recently created another set of letters to enhance Main Library’s grounds, and sent
out an email blast to artists asking for their help. Within four hours, all letters had been claimed and
generous artists took them home to decorate. The happy result is eleven talented artists’ renderings of
SHAKER READS, which will be installed this spring at Main Library to promote summer reading. In
December, the Library photographed the artists with their letters so residents could meet the artists.
