a Preservation Award
Shaker residents take great pride in their
historic homes. This year’s Preservation
Awards program is an opportunity for
residents to earn recognition for exterior
projects completed after April 2017.
The Shaker Heights Landmark
Commission established the
Preservation Awards in 1998 to
recognize and highlight efforts by
property owners who have preserved
and improved their properties.
Nominations may be submitted for
any building in Shaker Heights, including
homes and apartment buildings,
commercial buildings, and other
structures. Award categories include:
• Retention of Original Materials
• Exterior Restoration
• Excellence in Stewardship
• Distinguished Landscape
• Architecturally Appropriate Addition
• Other
Submissions will be accepted online
through March 31. Winners will be
announced at an awards ceremony this fall.

In November, Shaker Heights residents voted to elect Carmella Williams and to reelect
Sean Malone, Nancy Moore, and Earl Williams, Jr. to City Council. Their terms
began January 1 and end December 31, 2024.
Carmella Williams, a longtime resident of Shaker Heights, is the co-chair of the
Moreland on the Move Association and Move Neighborhood Association and former
vice president of the Shaker Heights Public Library Board of Directors. She is an
analyst with Baker Hostetler and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Sean Malone was re-elected for a second term on City Council. He has chaired
the Finance and Administration Committee and the Human Relations Task Force.
Malone is also senior counsel with Kohrman Jackson & Krantz and a member of the
Shaker Heights Development Corporation.
Nancy Moore was re-elected to a fifth term. She has chaired the Tree Advisory
Board, the Landmark Commission, and the Safety and Public Works Committee.
Moore also serves as the executive committee president of the Doan Brook
Watershed Partnership.
Earl Williams, Jr. was re-elected to a fifth term. He has chaired the Board of
Appeals, the Communications and Marketing Committee, and the Fair Housing
Review Board. He is a former member and officer of the Shaker Schools PTO.
They will join current Council members Tres Roeder, Anne Williams, and
Rob Zimmerman.
Mayor David E. Weiss was re-elected to a four-year term. A longtime resident,
Weiss brings to the office more than three decades of legal and business experience
– particularly in the area of real estate. He previously served as an elected council
member for the City and as a member of the Shaker Heights Planning Commission
and Board of Zoning Appeals.
