1. The Publisher is responsible for content, design, and subscription
management. They will determine their target audience for newsstand sales.
Newsstand distribution is very expensive and you should never consider it
without No
a good business rationale. Keep in mind that Distributors will bump
you off their list if your magazine cannot consistently achieve sales levels of
25% or more. The publisher will need to determine a list of 'competitive titles”,
know the demographics of their readers (in order to place the magazines in
appropriate neighborhoods), and decide on the look (most newsstand are
glossy, thick, well prepared publications that catch the eye) – this normally
involves collaborating with an experienced printer, like Hess.

2. Newsagents (Circulation Providers) are brought in to achieve authorization
to display the publications in the retail chains. The Circ Provider controls the
single copy sales: becoming the marketing, financial, and information link
between the publishers, the wholesale distributors to whom they distribute,
and the retailers that sell magazines to consumers. They also provide
additional publisher services such as determining seasonal trends, testing
campaigns, etc. These are the folks that provide the numbers. How many of
your publication is going to each retailer based on their projected sales (print
orders). And finally, most will provide the management of all financial
transactions relating to newsstand sales. Hess Printing can help you choose
your Newsagent - normally determined by what market (US, Canadian,
Europe, etc) you are targeting.
