Drop Ship is the process whereby the Printer (Hess) transports the mail directly to various NDC (national Distribution Centers) and SCF (Sectional Center facilities). The USPS offers discounts for the printer to handle the distribution of Standard Mail and some Periodical. Hess will evaluate the amount of mail qualifying for these facilities, compare the USPS discount vs. the cost of transportation, and determine if we can save our clients money by offering this. We can do this without a list. We just need the quantity and piece weight. The estimates are based on historical averages and are not postage quotes. However, the more detail you provide (National, regional, local, etc.) the more accurate we can be. In this case our customer asked to mail 50,000 catalogs, 48p + cover. She wants to know the postage effects of using either 40# for her text pages vs. 45#. Below is what you would receive back. This is just the summary page.
