2. What is the difference between co-palletization, co-mailing, and comingle? Co-Mail: as previously noted, deals with addressing standard and periodical FLATS. Co-palletization: Groups the physical BUNDLES of mail, which have already been addressed and presorted, onto pallets in order to reduce bag mail and create more pallets. These pallets can then be drop shipped to a corresponding postal facility to receive destination discounts. Co-palletization does not change the publications presort qualification or package make-up. Co-Mingle: Uses USPS equipment to presort standard LETTER size mail, that has already been addressed. EXAMPLE ONLY HESS Mail that is not sorted to destination Hess Print Solutions (Mail is processed and prepared for shipment) Mail is transported to Consolidator who combines mail pallets to common USPS locations USPS discounts goes first to the local PO and then the closest USPS processing center Kent PO Cleveland Processing Hess Printing and Bindery 3765 Sunnybrook Road Post Press Operations Brimfield, OH 44240 Email: info@HessPrintSolutions.com Ph. 330.678.5868 PH. 800.678.1222 3. What are the benefits of co-mail? Co-mailing allows your mail title to achieve a more advantageous presort which in turn reduces postage costs. Postage costs are further reduced by increased drop ship savings. Co-mailing can also optimize your delivery time with the USPS because the process creates better sorted packages and pallets that move through the postal system with less processing. 4. What kind of mail qualifies for co-mail? Both Periodical and Standard flats. Co-mail is not designed for letter size mailings or parcels. 5. Does my mail piece have to be a specific size to fit into co-mail*? The mail piece needs to qualify as an Automated Flat and fit these specs: Min Max Length: 7.0” 9.0” Height: 10.0” 11.25” Thickness: 0.063” 0.563” Weight: <see Flex Test> 15.9oz *We can always send a sample to our co-mailer for testing, when in doubt. Drop Ship is the process whereby the Printer (Hess) transports the mail directly to various NDC (national Distribution Centers) and SCF (Sectional Center facilities). The USPS offers discounts for the printer to handle the distribution of Standard Mail and some Periodical. Hess will evaluate the amount of mail qualifying for these facilities, compare the USPS discount vs. the cost of transportation, and determine if we can save our clients money by offering this.
