What is co-mailing? Co-mailing is the process of merging individual mail pieces from multiple mailing streams into a single mailing stream. Co-mailing allows mailers to achieve a better rate of postage by grouping larger quantities of like zip codes. This also allows for more Destination Entry discounts (transporting directly to individual post office locations) For Example: - You have a list of 20,000 names, for your 3oz catalog. One of these is going to John D in Valencia, CA 91355, however he is the only one in that zip code on your list. You would likely pay the mixed ADC rate of about $0.539. - You send these your catalogs and list to a co-mailer. They will sort your 20,000 names with all the other lists – normally reaching a pool anywhere from 1.5mm to 3mm total pieces. - Now, with that many pieces going your odds are much better that some of the other titles in the pool are also going to recipients in zip code 91355. If just 9 of those 3mm pieces are going to that zip, you get ADC rate ($0.522). However, now that there are so many pieces, odds are you can ship to the SCF ($0.479). Right there is an 11% savings. This is normally a minimum; the goal is to get as much to qualify for SCF Carrier Route as possible ($0.245). - Of course you pay for the production, sortation, and delivery – eating into that savings, but overall we normally see about a 30% savings for most projects before fees. Postage rates listed are estimates based on size and current USPS rate tables – not to be used as absolutes. GO HOKIES BEAT MIAMI Drop Ship is the process whereby the Printer (Hess) transports the mail directly to various NDC (national Distribution Centers) and SCF (Sectional Center facilities). The USPS offers discounts for the printer to handle the distribution of Standard Mail and some Periodical. Hess will evaluate the amount of mail qualifying for these facilities, compare the USPS discount vs. the cost of transportation, and determine if we can save our clients money by offering this.
