Utility Boxes
A collaborative effort among the Shaker
Heights High School PTO, Shaker
Heights Arts Council (SHAC), Shaker
Heights High School (SHHS) and its Art
Department, and the City’s Planning
Department elevated two utility boxes
from the mundane to the magnificent
and added them to the growing public art
collection throughout Shaker Heights.
The first utility box features a
whimsical illustration of a child playing
through the seasons. It was the artful
inspiration of SHHS Class of 2016
student Maisha Lewis. The lively artwork
design, created for her 2016 Senior
Project, was reproduced to cover each side of the box located on the corner of South
Woodland and Woodbury roads.
The second project just down the street, on the corner of South Woodland Road
and Parkland Drive, sprung from the creative mind of SHHS Class of 2017 student
Ananada Prioleau. This colorful and playful project depicts animated celestial images.
The work was created as part of Prioleau’s 2017 Senior Project.
