City Awarded $150,000 Grant to
Support Park Upgrades in Moreland
The City received $150,000 through a Community Development Block Grant awarded by
Cuyahoga County to carry out City priorities and to support the ongoing work of the Moreland
Rising project.
Grant funds are being used to make Chelton Park more inviting and functional by replacing
the severely deteriorated playground surface and picnic tables, installing cement pads under the
tables, replacing the broken drinking fountain, and replacing the deteriorated basketball court.
At Hildana Park, a sturdy cement chess table and a backgammon table are being installed.
In addition, the significant gateway public art by Shaker resident Scott Goss, winner of the
recent Moreland Rising art competition, will be installed in Hildana Park. This interactive public
art celebrates the neighborhood identity and architecture. (See Shaker Life, Summer 2018).
These improvements were selected based on input from a 2015 resident survey, ensuing
community discussion, and a City park survey conducted in 2016, which identified priorities
based on safety and conditions. SL
