RISING
If the Shoe Fits…
Wear it. If it doesn’t fit, or if it needs to be
repaired, visit Gomez Shoe Repair, 16802 Chagrin
Boulevard. They can work miracles on your shoes and boots. Whether they are too big, too
small, need new heels, a repair, a prosthetic, or a serious deep cleaning, Gomez can extend the
life of your shoes. But that’s not all. Handbags and luggage, leather jackets, wallets, and belts
can all be repaired and restored by the craftspeople at Gomez.
With more than 20 years of experience, Carlos Gomez is an expert cobbler.
He honed his craft as a young boy in an Ecuadoran town where nearly everyone
made leather items by hand – shoes, boots, luggage, purses. After moving to
New York City in 1990, and becoming an American citizen, Gomez is now
the owner of five shoe repair shops throughout Northeast Ohio. Lucky
for us, his newest shop is right here in Shaker Heights. November
will mark their one year anniversary.
Gomez is happy to have landed in Shaker. “I heard Al Nola
was leaving so I knew there would be customers looking for shoe
repair. Shaker is a good place. The City was so helpful to me in
opening the store. I’ve never had so much help opening a business.
I’m so happy. I even met the mayor, who came by to say hello. And I fixed
two pairs of his shoes.”
The repair and restoration work done by Gomez Shoe Repair reflects the
highest level of workmanship. With 12 family members and employees working
at various locations, Gomez personally ensures the expert workmanship and
customer service by visiting every shop regularly. His wife, Elsa, is also highly
skilled in repairing leather handbags, and their son is on track to join the family
business.
In addition to restoration and repair, Gomez has carved out a specialty
in orthopedic work, handling custom needs for clients requiring heel and sole
lifts and accommodations for specific foot and leg conditions. Gomez says
they can handle whatever the client’s prescription requires, even if that means
disassembling the shoe or boot, no matter what type (including sport and golf
shoes) and re-manufacturing them with the adjustment “built-in,” thereby
ensuring comfort and fit. He can even custom make shoes for clients who have
very specialized needs.
Always searching for ways to provide the best customer service, Gomez now offers text,
email, and online quotes, and mail-in service. So, if you are wondering about your repair or fit
issues, just text a photo of the shoe that needs adjusting to 440-915-5150 and you get a call
back to discuss the options and pricing. If it is more convenient, clients can mail
in their shoes for the adjustment or repair and they will be mailed back free of
charge. All that from the comfort of home.
“I love what I do,” says Gomez. “When I see my customers and they love
how their shoes have been reconditioned, it makes me happy. And then when
they come back again, it feels great and it makes me work even harder.”
