"It's a fun puzzle to put together," Davidson said.
"We also have to think about our space and what
will work on our stage."
But after the season's productions are set in
stone, Davidson said she's grateful that the Rome
community supports those productions. It does that
through volunteers, audition numbers and ticket
sales.
"We like to say theater's for everyone," she said.
"You don't have to be on stage or have any special
skills to be a part of Rome Little Theatre. There are
lots of roles that need to be filled."
One of the things that keeps RLT viable is
its emphasis on providing a place where the
community's youngest members can flourish and
learn. They then grow up not only loving the arts,
Davidson said, but learning other life skills as well.
"It's so valuable to give kids that experience,"
she said. "Children who have become involved
in the theater, become more involved in their
community. They learn more than just theater.
They gain confidence and empathy. The theater
becomes a home for them."
The next season of Rome Little Theatre launches
on April 3. Davidson said while she can't reveal
all productions before that date, patrons can
expect hilarious comedies, thoughtful drams and
of course big musicals.
Upcoming shows that have already been
advertised are the comedy "Leading Ladies" which
runs May 1-10 and "Frozen Jr." which runs March
20-20.
One of the best ways to keep up with everything
going on at RLT is to follow them on Facebook
which lists the most current information including
the popular Summer Workshop. There is also
a special RLT Volunteer Facebook page and of
course the website, www.romelittletheatre.com
which has all the show information.
And the RLT office, located within the DeSoto
Theatre at 530 Broad Street, is open Tuesdays
through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"This is a place where people of all ages and
backgrounds can come together and collaborate
on something that brings joy to others," Davidson
said of the theater. "We want everyone to enjoy
theater. We do everything we can to appeal to as
many people as possible."
