Best Plants For Your Landscaping from
Lavender Mountain Hardware
From Lavender Mountain Hardware
This is the 20th year for Lavender Mountain Hardware
& Garden. I look back on our first spring and remember
we started out with a few tables of vegetable plants and
herbs. The garden center has grown tremendously, and
we now order plants from growers all over the southeast.
New plants are being patented daily and it is difficult
even for us to weed out the good from the bad. We have
seen plants hit the marketplace in the spring and be gone
before fall. Sometimes a new plant will be described as 3’
tall, when it actually is 6’ tall at maturity. All this can be
very confusing for the home gardener.
So, I would like to share with you a few of my favorite
recent plant introductions that would be a great addition
to your landscape.
Titan Blueberry – huge berries as big as plums
Empress of China Dogwood – Evergreen with lots of
white blooms
Pancake Arborvitae – very low growing rounded needled
evergreen – 12” tall
Ice & Roses Hellebore – The most robust and disease
resistant Hellebore – deer proof
Purple Daydream Loropetalum - a beautiful low growing
Loropetalum that stays under 3 feet.
Paniculata Hydrangeas – These are the hydrangeas that
love the sun and have big conical blooms. In the past
few years multiple new varieties have been introduced.
Blooms normally start out green or white and fade into
pale pink or deep rose. Limelight, Phantom, Strawberry
Vanilla, Bobo, Little Lime, Firelight, Little Lamb; these are
all great performers.
SuperTunia – Best Petunia variety – It is a vigorous
grower that is self-cleaning, no deadheading. Beautiful
full plants that do not get leggy toward the end of the
season. Try Vista Bubblegum.
There’s lots to be excited about in the plant world and we
look forward to helping you decide what’s best for your
landscape.
