TO YOU.
Halloween decorations and much more continued to show my
artistic ability.
Suddenly, every day was a Friday and every night became a
Saturday night. I was lost, I had lost, and I had no idea what I
was looking for. Retirement changed my paradigm and I had no
clue who I was. Giving up 45 years of leadership was not easy. I
floundered for a couple of months then I returned to the art that I
previously loved. Starting up photography again was more difficult
than I expected. I was a great photographer in my mind, but not so
great in reality. I was accustomed to lots of practice, but not lots of
errors. My life got easier as time passed, and with a loving wife to
encourage me, my photography slowly improved.
After we moved to Cherokee County in 2017, I learned that
our county is rich with wonderful things to photograph. I started
posting pictures on multiple social media sites then ultimately
created a site of my own. Since retirement, photography has given
me a new purpose. It has shaped my life into a great hobby and
it has helped me live life in ways that I never expected. Like my
law enforcement career and my newspaper column, it’s all about
feedback and about leaving a positive legacy.
I was recently elated when two neighbors asked me to do
photoshoots for them, and more delighted when the pictures
came out to everyone’s satisfaction. Seeing an excited look on a
person’s face or reading a person’s nice comment when they see
a picture that I took is thrilling. I love working with people and
encapsulating their emotions so that their feelings are long lasting.
Photography fills my day and my wife fills my life.
Staring at the walls or the television was as much fun as eating
a spoon full of dirt. Today, photography gives me spoons full of
fun every day. I do hope that everyone enjoys my photography
tomorrow, so that I can leave a legacy today.
