2020 Recycling Events
Mark your calendars for community recycling events for 2020. All events are held
at the Shaker Heights Service Center, 15600 Chagrin Boulevard. Tip: Hold your
phone’s camera over the QR code above for the iCalendar feed for these events.

Community Shredding – Saturday, April 25 & October 3, 9 am-1 pm.
Driver's license and proof of residency – e.g. current utility bill – required for this
event only. Accepted items: up to three banker’s boxes of paper for shredding. No
need to remove staples or other binding devices.
Computer Roundup – Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5 & 11-12;
August 8-9 & 15-16, 8 am - 4 pm.
Accepted items: cables, cell phones and accessories, CPUs, keyboards, mice, modems,
monitors, printers, software, tablets, and terminals.
Habitat for Humanity Restore Collection – Saturday, May 16, 9 am-1 pm.
Accepted items: usable household and construction items for Habitat for Humanity.
Please, no paint, clothing, or bedding.
Household Hazardous Waste Roundup – Saturday and Sunday,
May 2-3 & 9-10; September 12-13 & 19-20, 8 am - 4 pm.
Accepted items: adhesives, automotive fluids, caustic household cleaners, driveway
sealer, gasoline, herbicides, insecticides, kerosene, lighter fluid, mercury, mineral
spirits, oil or solvent-based paints, paint thinners, pesticides, polyurethanes,
primers, sealers, shellacs, spray paints, turpentine, roof tar, varnishes. No latex paint
or materials from businesses will be accepted.
MedWish International - Saturday, June 20, 9 am-1 pm.
Accepted items: unused, non-expired medical supplies and usable medical equipment.

City Welcomes
New Finance Director
John Potts has been appointed director
of finance for the City. Potts, a resident
of Shaker Heights, brings more than
20 years of experience to the position,
most recently as vice president of
Audit Services with SITE Centers Corp.
(formerly DDR Corp.).
“We are delighted to welcome
John to the City to oversee our Finance
Department,” says Mayor David E.
Weiss. “John’s leadership abilities and
track record of successfully addressing a
wide range of challenges, combined with
his experience and financial expertise,
will serve our City well. As a resident,
John also has a strong commitment to
Shaker Heights.”
Potts has extensive experience with
audit, management, risk management,
and financial analysis in the private
sector. In addition to his work for SITE
Centers Corp., Potts has served as
director of internal audit and financial
analysis for the Boykin Lodging
Company, as manager of corporate
strategic planning and reporting for
Forest City Enterprises, and as a manager
with Deloitte & Touche.
Potts earned a Bachelor of Business
Administration from Cleveland State
University. He is a Certified Public
Accountant, a Chartered Global
Management Accountant, and holds
a certification in Risk Management
Assurance. He is currently the board
president for the Hanna Perkins Center
for Child Development in Shaker Heights.
Potts lives in the Malvern
neighborhood with his wife and
daughter who attends Onaway
Elementary School.

Just a Heads Up: Census forms were mailed to households in mid-March so you
should have received your form by now. There are several ways to submit your
information: by phone, by mail, and for the first time ever, online. It only takes
approximately 10 minutes to complete. For more information about the Census
