The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission has announced the
winners of the seventh annual Preservation Month Photo Contest.
The contest honors Preservation Month, which is celebrated
each May by preservation organizations across the country.
Like last year, the contest was hosted on Instagram.
Twenty photographers submitted 48 entries at the hashtag
#PreserveSH19.
The contest encouraged residents and visitors to submit
photographs showcasing what makes Shaker “Shaker.”
Submissions ranged from neighborhood scenes and
community events to streets, parks, architectural details, and
landmark buildings.
The Commission selected a grand prize
winner and three runners-up. In addition,
the People’s Choice award was given to the
submission receiving the most “likes” on
Instagram. All entries can be viewed at the
Instagram hashtag #PreserveSH19.
“These photographs wonderfully capture
not only the beauty of our City’s natural spaces,
but the vibrant community that is Shaker
Heights,” says Councilmember Nancy Moore,
chair of the Landmark Commission.
“From our historic Cherry Tree grove and
beloved Memorial Day parade to the brand
new Van Aken District, these entries connect us
to our past while celebrating our present.”
