The Cherokee County Educational Foundation
supports CCSD by promoting teaching and learning
and seeking funding and resources to support areas
not fully funded in the regular school budget.
Since its formation 10 years ago, the nonprofit
community organization has donated more than
$1.1 Million to CCSD through “bright idea” grants to
teachers and to districtwide special programs.
The Board of Directors is a “who’s who” of local
business and civic leaders, led by President Billy
Hayes, the CEO of Northside Hospital Cherokee and a
charter member of the CCEF Board.
“I believe many things contribute to living in a
great community, and the opportunity to receive a
quality education is at the top of the list!” Mr. Hayes
said. “I am proud to say that all of my children have
either graduated or are currently going through the
public school system. I choose to donate my time and
resources by serving on the Foundation Board in order
to give back to our community.”
The Foundation raises money for CCSD through
three signature events coordinated by the Board and
Executive Director Lisa-Marie Haygood: the Chickfil
A Moo’ve It 5K in August, which also benefits Cherokee
County Special Olympics; the Golf Classic tournament
in the fall; and the “Celebration of Education”
Gala in March. It also seeks competitive grants; collects
sponsorships for its annual educator T-shirt
campaign; and benefits from spirit nights with professional
sports teams.
The community has the opportunity to support
CCEF through its fundraisers, as well as through direct
charitable donations. More information is at

Mr. Gleichman was
recognized for his strong
support for Hasty, both as
an individual and as a
leader in the Rotary Club of
Canton, the school’s Partner
of the Year. He is an
exceptional volunteer,
giving his time for special
events like Trunk or Treat
as well as weekly opportunities
like serving as a class
journal buddy to listen to
students share their writing.
“Peter Gleichman is the
volunteer of volunteers,”
Principal Dr. Maria Rosario
Regan said. “He not
only looks for ways to serve
our Hasty community, but
he is committed to recruiting
others to serve alongside
him. As a member of
the Rotary Club of Canton,
he incessantly advocates
for support of Hasty and
works to engage more
members in service opportunities
to help prepare our
students to be successful in
their current world and
their future society! If we
all gave back to our community
like Mr. Peter gives
back to Hasty, our world
would be an even better
place.”
Peter Gleichman was named CCSD Volunteer of the Year.
Laurel Canyon Optimist Club was named CCSD Partner of the Year.
