2022-2023 | CLASS ACT 41
The state requires drivers complete 12 hours of instruction,
six hours of driving without students, and six
hours of driving with students; but CCSD exceeds the
requirements by providing 50 hours of training.
In the days before the start of the school year, CCSD’s
school buses can be spotted running their routes. One
practice run with their bus is required, but many drivers
practice more times in their own vehicles.
Another sign of the upcoming start of school are
annual bus inspections and training sessions led by State
officials in July, which provide an additional layer of
safety and knowledge for the department.
Last year, Mr. Georges completed education and
testing to be Certified Director of Pupil Transportation
(CDPT) through the National Association for Pupil Transportation
(NAPT). He is one of 204 certified professionals
recognized nationally by the NAPT. “Professional certification
demonstrates a commitment to the requirements
of one’s job, and participation in additional training to
exemplify your dedication to do the best possible job in
the pupil transportation field. After demonstrating their
knowledge and commitment to the student transportation
profession, completing required coursework, and passing
a rigorous exam, these NAPT members achieved their
certification.”
MY STOP APP
CCSD utilizes the Versatrans My Stop system that
allows parents to track their child’s school bus on a smart
phone or computer.
Parents can track their child’s school bus through a
link on the CCSD’s website or by downloading the Versatrans
My Stop mobile app. The GPS-based system shows
parents the location of their child’s bus on a map of its
route for 15 minutes prior to its scheduled arrival at the
bus stop both in the morning and in the afternoon.
The system tracks how many minutes away the bus is
from the stop, which is even more accurate than the map
image.
