Proud Partners: PTA and CCSD Working Together
The PTA is the Cherokee
County School District’s
oldest and strongest
partner thanks to its continuing
mission of supporting
students, teachers and
staff and school communities.
Every CCSD school is
served by a PTA unit made
up of parents, teachers and
staff and supported by local
businesses. These dedicated
volunteers give their
time, talent and treasure to
support schools through
volunteering, fundraising,
organizing special events
like the annual Reflections
fine art contest for students,
and advocating on
behalf of public education.
“The PTA is our most
valued partner in supporting
our schools,” Superintendent
26 CLASS ACT | 2022-2023
of Schools Dr.
Brian V. Hightower said.
“We hope every parent will
join the PTA at their child’s
school and play an active
role in this important
opportunity. Our PTA
volunteers and leaders
make a positive difference
in the lives of our community’s
children, and we
greatly appreciate their
service.”
The PTA is a separate
organization from CCSD,
with its own governance
and accountability measures
to ensure all donations
benefit schools,
teachers and staff and
students.
School PTA units in
CCSD are overseen by the
Cherokee County Council
of PTA. The Council of
PTA is led by a board of
officers elected by school
PTA leaders. The 2022-23
Council of PTA leaders,
serving the second year of
two-year terms, are:
Co-Presidents Lori Burton
and Catherine Shook, Vice
President 1 Scott Steinbrenner,
Vice President 2
Emily Compson Trenbeath,
Secretary Tiffani Hairgrow
and Treasurer Marieline
Reedy.
The Council of PTA
leaders and officers from all
school PTA units regularly
meet with the Superintendent
of Schools and his
senior staff to hear updates
on CCSD initiatives and
participate in an open
forum discussion. Through
these conversations, greater
opportunities for collaboration
develop, such as the
Council of PTA’s partnership
with CCSD to present
the annual Parent University
series.
Parent University
began as an in-person
program and expanded,
due to the pandemic, to
include virtual and recorded
on-demand sessions. It
provides the opportunity
for parents to attend free
classes on topics designed
to help their children be
academically and socially
and emotionally successful.
Details about upcoming
sessions are posted on
CCSD’s website and social
media platforms and
included in the CCSD
Connections monthly
parent e-newsletter.
