Marvelous Meals
CCSD’s School Nutrition program continues to earn
national recognition for its dedication to providing
healthy and delicious meals to students, with further
improvements planned for this school year.
The program, which has earned USDA and Georgia
Department of Education top honors, prides itself on
quality, variety and meeting students’ diverse dietary
needs.
Every day, CCSD students choose from a selection of
lunch entrées – with more than 30+ different entrees
monthly – and which always include a fresh meal-size
salad; a fruit, cheese and yogurt plate and a peanut butter
or sunflower butter-and-jelly sandwich. Each entrée is
paired with several sides of fruits or vegetables, and every
day, there are fresh side choices like strawberries, bananas,
side salads, and baby carrots. Breakfast menus are
stacked with healthy choices, too, and at both meals,
there’s a choice of low-fat milks and 100% fruit juices.
The USDA has ended its pandemic relief program of
providing funds for free meals to all students. Despite the
end of this funding and rising food costs, the CCSD School
Nutrition program has committed to maintaining
pre-pandemic prices for this school year. Breakfast is
$1.60 for all grades. Lunch is $2.45 for elementary
school, and $2.70 for middle and high school. The high
school grill line, which offers additional entrée choices, is
$3.75. If you think your family may qualify for the federal
free or reduced price lunch program and you have not yet
applied, please complete the easy application at www.
lunchapplication.com as soon as possible.
The MealViewer To Go app and website offer students
and parents a closer look at school cafeteria menus. The
system features photos and nutritional information and
allergen information for every entrée and side item on the
menu. Traditional full-month “at a glance” menus for all
schools remain available online at http://bit.ly/CCSDnutrition.

CCSD cafeterias still serve kid favorites like pizza and
chicken nuggets, but at the highest quality levels, using
many of the name brands families enjoy at home. The
School Nutrition program knows its customers’ palates
and also regularly tries out new menu items through
taste-tests. Feedback from students greatly influences the
menu, with new entrees and sides planned as a result of
input from focus groups of students including the School
Board’s high school Student Delegates.
This past school year, School Nutrition introduced a
popular new feature: special Heritage Month menus
offered one day each month to celebrate a different
culture’s cuisine. These menus are developed by CCSD’s
own culinary specialist.
As a result of taste tests, several new items are headed
to lunch trays this year: pot stickers with sweet Thai chili
Parents: This year marks an
end to the federal relief program
that provided school
meals for all students at no
cost. Families will have to
fill out the form to qualify
for Free/Reduced Meals
for 2022-23, or provide
Serving up
payment for meals as they did before the pandemic hit.
Breakfast and lunch prices will be unchanged from
the 2019-20 rates. Families are encouraged to fill out
the Free/Reduced Meal form as the data allows CCSD
to access federal resources for schools and families in
need of additional support. You can fill out the form at
the link in the QR code. Thank you!
