Who: Duvall Brown Where: Moreland Neighborhood Business: Information specialist with the Shaker Heights Police Department. I also have a side business as a graphic and web designer, Duvall Brown Visuals. Mission: To always be respectful, to be the friend I want to have in my life, and to honor God with a truthful intention. Also to invent, to conceive, and to create. What I Love About My Work: I simply love the opportunity to assist the public while offering them some form of support. From answering incoming calls, I ascertain the nature of their business and forward calls to the appropriate department. I handle vehicle and warrant releases, and act as the liaison between the Police Department and First Energy regarding street light outages and repairs. I also handle warrants, body cam video requests, and the digital billboard within the department. The interactions with people are always interesting, and sometimes comical. I have some callers who just want to chat, and one resident who sometimes calls just to tell me a joke. I’m always happy to give them a few moments of my time. Personal Background: I grew up on the Southeast side of Cleveland, attended South High School and paid my own way through Bowling Green State University. My career paths have been a true adventure. I’ve always liked to challenge myself and my abilities. I’ve worked in the dialysis field serving acute and renal failure patients; for a Fortune 500 company where I developed an interactive training module and streamlined a worldwide sample department; and at a technology startup company that is now one of the leading authentication providers worldwide. But I always had the drive to do more, so I went into business for myself doing visual media when I’m not at my day job with the SHPD. I’ve worked with leading motivational speaker George Fraser, handling his media for the Power Networking Conference, for TV personality Les Brown, and the actress Tichina Arnold of the TV shows “Martin” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” I also helped develop the University Hospitals Seidman Clinical Trials mobile app. I’m a very proud father of my daughter, Acacia Marie, who lives and works in Columbus. On Working and Living in Shaker Heights: Living and working in this community, I encounter many great people who are both entertaining and friendly. I enjoy grabbing food at the Touch of Italy. I’m a sucker for pizza so that has always been my favorite spot, but I’ve also been getting into trying more foods at the Van Aken District. I think it’s a really enjoyable atmosphere, especially in the summer weather. I’m a crazy Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers fan. To relax, I really enjoy spending time at Horseshoe Lake Park; I find it peaceful and a great photography location. I enjoy time alone, just listening to a wide range of music and practicing spirituality. But I also have a large circle of friends I like to hang out with, especially from my Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. I’ve developed brothers I will treasure for life.
