The 2022 winners are Shaker Middle School students Isaac Laytin, Aaron Nieman, and Mason Zhang for their website on the Crimean War. Ohio History Day is part of National History Day – a non-profit based in Maryland that operates an annual project-based contest for students in grades 6-12. It was started in 1974 as a local contest by David Van Tassel and other members of the Department of History at Case Western Reserve University. Today, more than half a million students from all 50 states and around the world enter through local contests. They construct entries as an individual or a group in one of five categories: documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. Ohio History Day is a unique opportunity for Shaker students to explore the past in creative, handson ways. To offer its support, Shaker Library invites participating students to the Library for a Research Day to learn about the resources available to them for their projects. Additionally, the Library established the Shaker Library Research Prize to reward the students’ work.
